ABSTRACT

A school council is an elected body, consisting of representatives from each class (councillors) and a chairperson who is usually an adult (teacher, governor, etc.). It is set up to provide students with a voice and to help in the smooth running of the school. The councillors bring suggestions or requests from their class or year group to the meeting which are then discussed and either rejected or accepted. Suggestions which are accepted are then forwarded for action to the most appropriate body. Councillors feed back to their class or year group on the outcomes.
