ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the floor to the involved rural social enterprises. In several interviews the social entrepreneurs respond to guiding questions and provide a vivid impression of what motivates and challenges social entrepreneurs. Social cooperatives are a special type of organization that consists of two layers: One layer is the layer with the farmers and the other layer is the layer with business people. The dominant advocates of the social mission are the members of the cooperative. The chapter offers knowledge and information on different topics regarding our region to the local community. The fundamental idea of a cooperative is that the social and entrepreneurial mission should support and strengthen each other. Social enterprises are viewed very critically because they often use hybrid approaches in order to be able to operate economically successfully and at the same time pursue their social mission.
