ABSTRACT

Some aspects of virtual slide and static labeled image preparation for our course have been described elsewhere [2]. Specific areas on the glass microscope slides in the student collections were selected for scanning. These tissue areas were digitized using a proprietary method developed by Christopher M. Prince. His method employs an advanced tiling algorithm (see Chapter 20). He used a motorized X,Y scanning stage attached to a research grade Olympus light microscope equipped with 4, 10, 20, and 40× objective lenses and 10× ocular. Total magnification was 40, 100, 200, and 400, respectively.
