In this chapter, we will cover basic rendering techniques in Photoshop and Sketchbook and compare results when rendering by hand using marker and tracing paper. We will also cover how to eliminate blemishes and dark spots and how to prepare our linework for digital rendering. We will explore scanning and cropping and working with levels. We will also discuss how to mask off unwanted areas and how to render with straight lines. We will explain Sketchbook’s simple interface, how to organize layers as in Photoshop and how to pick markers and colors.
