ABSTRACT

Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) is defined as hypercalcemia in the setting of a normal or elevated parathyroid hormone (PTH) level. PHPT is caused by excess PTH secretion from one or more of the parathyroid glands. It is estimated to affect as many as 1 in 500 to 1 in 1000 people [1].
