ABSTRACT
What do toxic toys, the Arctic ozone hole and passive smoking-induced lung cancer have in common? All of them were announced in speculative press releases, which claimed that subsequent research in peer reviewed journals would demonstrate the veracity of the original claims. Yet we are still awaiting the research, the allegations remain unsubstantiated.
