ABSTRACT

China is the largest developing country in the world. For a long time now, it has tried to improve the lives of its people by putting great effort into socioeconomic development. After New China was founded in 1949, the country carried out basic reforms in social systems nationwide, including reform of the landowning system. These reforms gradually addressed very extensive poverty in the country that had been brought on by unequal distribution of wealth. The 1950s saw a notable improvement in people’s lives, as poverty was alleviated to a certain degree.
