ABSTRACT

Proactivity in coaching is at the centre of this chapter, helped by a case study of working with a client who is driven by a felt sense of the world, a kinaesthetic learner. This piece illustrates the impact of using creativity in a coaching session, leading to profound revelations. There are also pragmatic examples of poor practice, using the neurolinguistic programming (NLP) ‘circle of excellence’ process. A variety of creative options in coaching is set out, including picture cards, network maps and representative figures. The importance of empathy is emphasised when partnering, as a coach, in experimental concepts.
