ABSTRACT
There are numerous situations where an engineer may be interested in two variables
for each item of some population, and the relationship between them. Some
examples are:
(i) Rainfall on a catchment and flow in a river. In this case, the flow depends
on the rainfall but rainfall does not depend on flow.
