A Problem in Multi-Index Normality

In this paper we answer a question of Mauduit on normality. Specifically we show that the uniform distribution of the sequence ((s . rⁿ + r^m). x) does not imply normality of x in base r unless s is a power of r. We prove a general theorem that includes this as a special case.
