ABSTRACT

This chapter provides a brief introduction of the reality underpinning the redesign and rebuilding in the years following the end of the Second World War. It then moves on to argue that more work is needed, which shifts attention away from prominent architect-planners involved with the rebuilding to focus instead on the role played by different actors – working at different spatial scales – including planners, property owners, developers and residents involved improving the physical, economic and environmental conditions of British cities.
