ABSTRACT

This book is the first of its kind, being an attempt to look ‘beneath the surface of money, finance and capitalism’ from a socioanalytic and sociological stance. The authors have written from theoretical positions that regard the usual logic of the mathematical modelling of the finance industry as limited. It is limited because it takes little, if any, account of the human beings who develop and utilize these models. Through action research, case studies and evidence from consulting interventions in a variety of countries, the authors in this book have raised serious questions about the nature of thinking, planning and action in the financial industry. All these activities are strongly influenced by unconscious and ‘unthought’ group and organizational dynamics emergent from collective human motivations and emotions.
