ABSTRACT

A project’s life cycle consists of three stages: preliminary organization, execution and completion. To ensure the desired result, it is important that all three stages receive full attention from both the sponsor and project team. This chapter presents such topics as writing a project proposal, the initial meeting between the project manager and sponsor, and setting up and carrying out a project, and introduces the various phases of a project: concept, definition, preliminary design, detailed design, production and aftercare. It examines the entire process from concept to the delivery of the project results, which is shown schematically from concept to the official conclusion of the project. Projects get underway officially during a start-up meeting at which all the stakeholders and participants – sponsor, and project members – should be present. The design is used to make preparations for the project.
