ABSTRACT

In this last chapter, the embodied perspective forms the basis for a theoretical discussion of how market studies can inform and guide the promotion of affluent stress-free and sustainable consumption. The embodied view on consumption represented by this book shares many similarities with the socio-material understanding of consumption in constructivist market studies. A socio-material view recognizes that consumer bodies respond to the solicitations of the marketplace and that consumer bodies partake in the experience of this marketplace. Hence, theories from this scientific field of study are used to problematize how we can work to shape affluent consumption.
