ABSTRACT

This chapter shows that the extant prose analysis systems satisfy most requirements of the methodological uses for prose structure. It deals with the manipulations of signaling and specificity of details that led to the assignment of different top-level structures for a text on railroads. Reasons for the appearance of different approaches to identifying prose structure are explained in terms of multiplicity of disciplines, varying purposes, and to the inherent complexity of text, the writing process, and the reading process. Thus, the procedures for analyzing text structure and content have been put to use as scoring templates to access a reader’s recall of text. The problems and solutions for supertankers are highest in the hierarchical structure due to their instantiation in the problem/solution schema selected for processing the text, and this content also has the greatest number of ideas subordinate and related to it.
