ABSTRACT

The aim of this chapter is to outline the evidence for the use of psychotropic medications for psychological (including insomnia) and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms in patients with GI conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome, functional dyspepsia, and inflammatory bowel disease. Drug classes reviewed include common antidepressants, anxiolytics, and antipsychotics. The chapter also makes practical recommendations for treatment.
