ABSTRACT

Road accidents are now the most common cause of death, injury and absenteeism at work (Haworth, Tingvall and Kowadlo, 2000) and are set to become the third main cause of all deaths worldwide by 2020 (WHO, 1999). Road safety is a particular concern for organizations as company drivers are around fifty percent more likely to be involved in a crash than other drivers (Lynn and Lockwood, 1998; Grayson, 1999; Broughton, Baughan, Pearce, Smith and Buckle, 2003), and this is not simply due to greater exposure/mileage (Flin, Mearns, O’Connor and Bryden, 2000).
