ABSTRACT

The Quaternary was a period dominated by the development of the River Nile and the Nile Delta, the appearnce of modern man, and the establishment of the Ancient Egyptian civilization. These developments are summarized in Table 10.1. The Quaternary sediments include the older Nile deposits in the Nile Valley. From oldest to youngest, they are the Armant, Issawia, Idfu, Qena, Abbassia, Dandara, KoroskoMakhadma-Ikhtiariya, Masmas-Ballan, Deir Fakhuri, Sahaba-Darau, Dishna-Ineiba, Arkin, and El-Kab formations.
