ABSTRACT

Nearly 400 bloggers submitted applications to attend the 2008 Democratic National Convention in Denver, Colorado, but only 55 bloggers were selected to attend and provide coverage of the Convention. Of the chosen bloggers, a majority of the blogs focused on state politics. Yet, critics argued that few of the bloggers represented black voices. Convention organizers asserted that they selected bloggers based on audience size and coverage of local issues. Despite this, the Democratic National Committee (DNC) responded by enlarging the pool of bloggers, adding more black bloggers to the mix, illustrating the power of black political bloggers and their relationship with the DNC.1
