ABSTRACT

Xu Jun (as Xu below): Let’s come straight to the point. You are very experienced literary translators with original ideas on literary translation. We’re now doing a research on the essential issues of literary translation and would like to ask you some questions in that aspect and discuss them with you. The first issue I want to discuss is the re-creation in literary translation although it has also been much discussed. In my opinion, there seem two different views on the re-creation in translation practice. One is “subjective” creation, which means active creation; the other is that the translator has to adapt and create something due to some insurmountable difficulties in the translation process.
