ABSTRACT
Not all of the issues covered by the case studies have been fully described in the available literature, and where information is available it is sometimes only to be found in specialist papers and journals or in foreign-language publications. Neither broad analyses nor comprehensive and detailed information have been published on the Rhine salt issue, the acid emissions control policy of the European Community or the Magra valley; these chapters were therefore based to a large extent on original research and on some French, Dutch and Italian material.
