ABSTRACT

This chapter presents a few facts about the Baha'i Faith and looks specifically at how Baha'u'llah, the founder of the Baha'i Faith, approaches the reading of the scriptures of other religions. It explores how he reads, or rather re-reads, these in a creative and innovative manner in order to set the scene for his own claims. The Baha'i Faith was founded by Baha'u'llah, a title that can be translated as the Glory of God. Baha'u'llah's reading of scripture can be said to have been based on the proposition that Scripture is intended for the spiritual education of humanity therefore it needs to be read as a spiritual text dealing with the spiritual history and future of humanity. The apocalyptic and millennialist prophecies found in every religion refer to the destruction or abrogation of the previous religious order and the emergence of a new spiritual order which in turn results in a new social order.
