ABSTRACT

Art therapists in forensic settings often find themselves at the crossroads where legal issues, ethical considerations, and moral ramifications intersect. They may even discover that such concerns collide, causing a derailment of therapeutic care. In addition, there are a number of particular boundaries that need to be considered with this particular population in order to create healthy and secure relationships. Through careful examination of the ethical standards of the field, narratives of various scenarios that demonstrate potential struggles experienced by art therapists whose work and experiences may run counter to the institutional regulations, and some intense self-examination, this chapter explores these concerns and illustrates potential strategies of success despite such professional dissonance.
