SBT assumes that every client offers a unique set of personal, social, and community resources that can help them change, recover, and grow. SBT counselors identify and incorporate these resources by (a) looking, listening, and asking for them, and (b) exploring how clients might use identified resources to overcome problems and achieve goals.
