ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the way to recognise and use the last two letters of the Russian alphabet and to use verbs to speak about friends and family. It reviews Russian words that describe thing and the “mysterious” neuter. Red Square is in no way connected to the Reds or the Soviets, as the name goes a few centuries back, long before Bolsheviks appeared on the scene. The red brick walls of the Kremlin were not even there to start with – the Kremlin was originally made of wood and white stone. It was in the middle of the 16th century when Moscow became the capital of Russia, and Ivan the Terrible ordered the famous St. Basil’s Cathedral to be built next to the Kremlin wall in a big empty space left from a huge fire. The chapter discusses hushing sounds and Russian vowels. To link adjectives (descriptive words) with neuter nouns, one needs to start with a dictionary form.
