ABSTRACT

Most Criminology and other Social Sciences courses will require researchers to use the Harvard referencing system. This chapter talks about citations and references. It describes the purpose and importance of appropriate referencing. A reference list is a list of all the sources researchers have cited in their work. If their work includes citations from every source researchers have read, then they only need to provide a reference list. If researchers have read other sources but not cited them in their writing, then they could list them as a separate bibliography. The chapter explores how to use the Harvard referencing system. There are a number of other general rules to follow when using the Harvard referencing system. The chapter provides the guidance, which is adapted from the University of Wolverhampton Harvard Referencing Guide. It also shows how to cite and reference a variety of sources.
