This chapter focuses on the information and attempts to assess its significance. Reflections on the case materials have sorted themselves into two categories, those with a micro–focus and those at a macropolicy level. The case materials offer little to suggest that protective differentiation by industry would make a contribution to policy in a landscape of weak protection. Where protected intellectual property provides conductivity, technology is more readily transmitted and generated and the stimulus given by received technology of all kinds - proprietary, media or embodied - is greater than under a regime of weak protection. The existence of private venture capital firms in Brazil indicates there is willingness to mobilize capital for investment in start-up companies based on new technology.
