ABSTRACT

I made a number of references in chapters five and six to the policy consequences or implications of the transformationist and traditionalist approaches. But I remained somewhat vague about the specific nature of these policies. I have never felt very comfortable with exploring the relationship between social science research or analysis and its policy implications. I am not very good at it and perhaps because I am not good at it I’m not especially interested in the topic. I don’t mean to suggest that I don’t consider the topic an important one. I do. Hence, I am consoled by the fact that there is such a lively interest in the topic and so many other social scientists are prepared to carry the banner of policy studies.
