Is the Sum Greater than the Parts? The Challenges for Land Forces in Support of Peacekeeping Operations

Canada prides itself, or at least used to pride itself, in its enduring and faithful contribution to each and every peacekeeping effort from inception. After all, it was in 1956 during the Suez Crisis that the classic Canadian image and reputation as peacekeepers was born. This image, and eventual urban myth surrounding Canadian soldiers that endured, led to a national perception that the Canadian Armed Forces were strictly a peacekeeping force.
