ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the author’s transdisciplinary art practice using the mobile phone app Comob Net as a creative research tool to get closer to and visualize GPS networks. The underlying research looks in detail at what it means to be both in touch with other people at-a-distance and on-the-move through locative mobile social networks. By drawing attention to the operation of GPS technologies that often operate in the background, this combination of artwork and social science research encourages discursive engagement with the creative, communicative, and invasive potentials of tracking technologies.
