ABSTRACT

This chapter picks up the action at the point in the project life cycle when these external difficulties have been settled and the project manager is given the green light to get on with the job. The project manager will be well advised to take control procedures for project correspondence and document handling seriously. It is necessary to ensure that positive steps are taken to deal with the routing and control of documented information within the home office and with all external parts of the project organization. It is desirable to have at least one representative of top management present at the beginning of the kickoff meeting to introduce the project and its manager to everyone present. However, networks are not always drawn with sufficient breakdown detail for the day-to-day allocation of work, and it might be necessary for design managers and supervisors to arrange for some more detailed local scheduling.
