The idea of relationships ties together several threads across the chapters. Markets coordinate exchange relationships between buyers and sellers, enmeshed in property relationships, which are sometimes legal and sometimes informal. The historical evolution of market and property relationships trace from the trades of nomadic herdsmen in the last Ice Age to global capitalism today.
