ABSTRACT
The most common type of renal tumor is renal cell carcinoma (RCC).
RCC accounts for 80–85% of all renal cancers. Incidence and mortality have been increasing. Survival is based on tumor stage.
Initial evaluation should include complete blood count (CBC), serum electrolytes, liver function tests (LFTs), chest X-ray, and abdominal computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).
Treatments for localized RCC include radical nephrectomy, partial nephrectomy, cryosurgery, and radiofrequency ablation.
Treatments for metastatic RCC include immunotherapy with interferon-alpha or interleukin-2, with or without cytoreductive nephrectomy.
Other types of kidney tumors include metastatic lesions, sarcomas, juxtaglomerular tumors, and lymphomas.
