ABSTRACT

The diagram technique developed in the previous chapter allows one to calculate Green functions and probabilities of scattering processes to the acuracy of any order in g. However, direct application of th rules formulated above to the calculation of diagrams containing closed loops leads to a meaningless result—the corresponding integrals diverge at large momenta. Attaching meaning to these expressions is the essence of the renormalization procedure to be studied in the present chapter.
