ABSTRACT

Inherent vulnerability, vulnerability intrinsic to the human condition, can neither be equated with a situational or contextual vulnerability nor be seen to be a reason to call forth a sense of oppression or further victimization. As Vera thinks about her experiences in relation to her work alongside Chris and to engaging in narrative inquiry with children and youth more generally, her childhood experiences and her experiences as a parent often intermingle. Vera began to think about what has shaped her understanding of stories both in and outside of schools. Vera and Chris have struggled with writing both interim and final research texts, as their silences, abbreviated talks and experiences are difficult to represent in words. They struggle with notions of vulnerability that are placed on them. New puzzles, intentions, and purposes may have emerged in the living alongside and in the ongoing negotiations of purposes and intentions.
