ABSTRACT

The project perspective on benefits may be quite at odds with the business. In its shortest form, it may consist of: Go live, get it working, and close down the snagging list. In practice, the attitude of the project towards benefits will very much depend upon whether the project or the business has responsibility for benefits realisation. If the project simply provides some technology and it has been agreed upfront that the business will be responsible for making sure that the technology is put into use, then the project is likely to be very hands-off in relation to benefits. If the project can only declare itself complete and maybe only then can receive its final payments, after the benefits are demonstrated to have been achieved. In some cases this may be more difficult, depending upon how quickly the benefits will arrive after the go-live events.
