ABSTRACT

Research ethics are a set of principles that guide moral choices about how tourism student should behave and their relationship with others. This chapter helps the tourism student to understand why research ethics are important when conducting a research. It also helps to understand the process for research ethics at their institution. The ethics codes can be divided into four main areas as: honesty and integrity; objectivity; intellectual property and the law; and confidentiality. Many universities and research institutions ensure that integrity and ethics are at the core of their research activities. The main aim of the Research Ethics Committee is to ensure that all stakeholders involved in the research, such as participants, institutions, funders and researchers, are protected during the lifetime of the research. The tourism students should therefore be aware of the Research Ethics Policy in place before embarking on a research project.
