ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the nature of the commercial home setting and the motivations of both host and tourist. It discusses many ways a textual tour of the commercial home, a setting in which the host and guest interact with each other. The chapter discusses a deconstruction of the complex interplay between dwelling and mobility. It begins by unpacking the nature of the setting as bound by the domestic context. The chapter provides a tour of the home and insights into the hospitality transaction by looking at virtual representations prior to the visit and experiences during the stay itself. It elaborates upon the importance of artefacts within the commercial home and their importance as signifiers of both identity and place. The chapter elucidates the theme of social interaction and control. It concludes by drawing together insights of this particular manifestation of commercial hospitality, its inherent tie to the home domain, and the paradox of enduring mobilities to be found therein.
