ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the geographical education of the early years', that is children up to the age of 6 years. The Geographical Association's Primary Geography Handbook has highlighted the ways geography can contribute to the primary curriculum. Geography helps children find out about the people and places all around them. Geography enhances children's understanding of the real world and helps them to make sense of the natural and built environments. Geography focuses on the rich variety and diversity of human and natural resources. Geography works to enhance the holistic nature of young children's learning. Geographical knowledge is embedded in children's play activities; adults can identify and use this. Build a town on a roadway map.
