ABSTRACT
Allan Schore's disciplines help increase the effectiveness of the therapeutic benefits for clients at least in terms of: a right hemisphere focus in therapy; self-regulation of brain/mind systems; the primacy of emotion; the process and experience of the therapist's presence in the present moment; and in other innovative ways of healing the brain/mind and resourcing emotional systems. These areas are the focus of this chapter with reference to a single case: Colin. First, it is worth putting this in the context of two brain integration pathways: bottom-up–top-down, and left brain, right brain. Non-integration, in contrast, alludes to 'functional isolation' 'between, or within, hemispheres', such as in dissociation. Playfulness, curiosity, interest and exploration are key aspects of the achievement-seeking regulating system. The chapter consider briefly here ways in which the group of trauma-focused therapies resource emotional systems.
