ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the analysis of the results of hypotheses testing under uniform distribution is given. It individually discussing the results of the other three distributions, namely; symmetric unimodal, left triangular, and right triangular are not given since a comprehensive analysis for all distributions is provided. Further, it avoids duplication and preserves the clarity of the results and brings forth the effects loading policies and other factors on FMS characteristics more effectively. The chapter deals with the testing of hypotheses and discusses the insights gained from the analyses. The hypotheses can be divided into two categories: hypotheses related to loading policies, and hypotheses related to flexible manufacturing systems (FMS) hardware constraints. The test results are discussed in the same order to bring forth the effects of loading policies and hardware limitations on FMS characteristics more vividly. When the FMS is equipped with a continuous tool delivery system, the maximum potential routing flexibility attained is the same under both policies.
