ABSTRACT

A large survey study found ADHD symptoms in 9.2% of the population studied with a male/female ratio of 2.28:1 (Ramtekkar et al., 2010). In 2000, ADHD was the most common behavior disorder among children comprising 3%–7% of all school-age children. By 2007, there had been an increase to 9.5% for parent report of the presence of ADHD diagnosis for the age range of 4-17 years (Center for Disease Control and Prevention, 2010). Studies of college students and adults suggest an adult prevalence rate at 4%–5% (American Psychological Association, 2000; DuPaul et al., 2001). Kessler et al. (2006) reported a prevalence rate of 4.4%.
