ABSTRACT

Once benefi ts begin to be realized, the process of benefi t realization has to be monitored, and benefi ts have to be reviewed and evaluated. Environmental changes and business changes may aff ect the rationale behind some of the expected benefi ts, and as a result some benefi ts may no longer be needed; they may require adjustments to their benefi t profi les; or they may require updates to the program and project business cases. In addition, the realization process may not happen as planned; therefore, issues should be identifi ed and treated in a timely manner. In case the changes or deviations aff ecting some benefi ts are not identifi ed and treated accordingly, the achievement of the expected targets for benefi t realization becomes extremely unlikely, as does the achievement of the strategic objectives related to those benefi ts.
