ABSTRACT

This chapter presents literature review on globalisation. Globalisation is a well-established area of research, but existing literature is still insufficient to shed critical light on global phenomena. Is globalisation an independent social event? Or, is the apparatus of globalisation dependent upon other existing social events? I categorise globalisation theories into different groups and together discuss each of them. The purpose of this chapter is not to disagree with globalisation theories, yet I would like to suggest that we should not perceive globalisation as totality either. This chapter included literature on globalisation as causal factors, as homogenised effects and as binary oppositions between the global and the local.
