ABSTRACT

This chapter analyses major terrorist attacks in Europe since 2004. During that time there have been numerous acts of political violence against Europe’s civilian, military/security and police forces, but this work focuses mostly on those major incidents where more than ten civilians died due to the actions of the individuals or groups. The chapter analyses the shift away from bombings and hijackings of airplanes, towards a more low-tech approach, particularly mass-shootings, stabbings and vehicular assaults on urban people.
