ABSTRACT

Roger Neighbour is an eminent retired general practitioner. From 1974 to 2003 Neighbour was a principal in general practice at his former training practice in Newton Abbot’s Langley, Hertfordshire. His special clinical interests were in psychotherapy, adolescent psychiatry, hypnosis and dermatology. Neighbour has taken prominent roles with the Royal College of General Practitioners. In 1984, he was appointed as a Member of the Royal College of General Practitioners examiner, later becoming convenor of the Panel of Examiners from 1997 to 2002. Neighbour is widely recognised for his writing and teaching about general practice. This is notably upon doctor–patient communication, the consultation, clinical generalism and medical education. Neighbour has been given a number of other awards. He was awarded an honorary Doctor of Science degree from the University of Hertfordshire and honorary fellowships of the Royal College of Physicians and the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners.
