ABSTRACT
Ischemic heart disease is the leading cause of death in the U.S. 1 and in the industrialized world. Previously termed coronary heart disease, 2 this disease causes about 34% of deaths in the U.S., more than 1.5 times as many as are caused by malignant neoplasms or cancer.
