ABSTRACT
Governments have played a considerable role in promoting East Asian growth. What is not so clear is what aspects of government initiatives were effective in promoting growth and what government development policies should be in the future. These questions have been the source of considerable controversy among economists and government officials. In this chapter we ask:
● Did government policy cause the East Asian countries to “take-off ” on such a spectacular growth path?
