ABSTRACT

Working with professional writers can be an inspiring experience for both teachers and young people alike. In school-based residencies and on visits to heritage sites, museums, galleries and other venues, writers of all ages and experience learn through creative engagement, through composing and considering the art and craft involved. Many different writers, including novelists, illustrators, playwrights, poets, journalists and non-fiction writers are involved in such partnership projects. Such writers not only demonstrate that they are passionate and enthusiastic about writing (and reading), but they privilege time for creating and completing texts. Many also work towards making public the work of young writers, creating real audiences for their compositions.
