ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the practical considerations that affect the deployment process. The initial focus for the Talent Circle is the development path for the individual, but this does not exclude discussion on their next career move, actions to prepare for it, how to develop their capability and targets for improvement. The chapter focuses at one hybrid approach that seems to meet the various psychological conditions required for a performance management system to work. The basic model of Management by Objectives (MBO) is to take the strategic goals of the business and break these down in a cascade approach, so each person's goals, when achieved, contribute to their manager's, or to the department's goals. The hybrid model can be adapted to suit many organisations needs but would still need to combine the two threads: personal capability development with some measure of contribution to the business goals.
